KARIMNAGAR, TELANGANA: A 23-year-old woman, who  aspires to become a police officer, was allegedly raped, filmed and blackmailed by three of her batchmates for almost two weeks in Telangana's Karimnagar district.

The three accused, G Srinivas, M Anjaiah and M Rakesh, who were also taking coaching classes to join the police force, raped and filmed the woman while she kept pleading with them to let her go. The three later blackmailed her threatening to post the video clip on social media and continued to assault her for over 10 days, police said.

Karimnagar Superintendent of Police D Joel Davis said the incident took place on the outskirts of Veenavanka village on February 10.

"The two woman and the three men had left the coaching centre together. The accused took the two women to a hillock and it seems one of the women sensed danger and ran away and the other was trapped," he said.
However, the locals say, the alleged crime happened at Veenavanka Mandal Coaching Centre for Police Selections.

The woman, police say, told her parents about the incident few days ago, after which a rape complaint was filed. The accused have also been charged under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Information Technology Act.

Angry villagers, who say police did not file the rape complaint earlier, beat up the three accused on February 24 evening after which they were admitted to a hospital in the neighbouring Warangal district.

All three accused have been arrested. Rakesh, who reportedly filmed the crime, has been remanded to judicial custody.

Complaint has also been registered against the villagers for assault.

Officer Joey said the delay in registering the case happened only because the girl did not come forward to complain. He, however, said they will inquire into the matter if and why the complaint was not registered earlier.

Chennur Sarpanch, Rayamallu said, "Unless there is immediate punishment, rapists will feel they can get away and have no fear of law.''
