Say hello to Kiddle, a child-friendly version of Google

 

If you have ever checked web browser history and your child has found some ’’bad’’ links, this news will please you. Google has recently launched a new search engine called Kiddle, which aims to be Google’s counterpart but with filtered content for children. It will keep your kid safe from smut and all sorts of adult content when you are busy and can’t keep track on what your child is viewing.

In an attempt to give children an age-appropriate Internet experience, all Kiddle’s functions, which are similar to Google’s, are adapted for kids. For example, the usual white background was replaced with a space theme featuring a robot.

The first three sites that appear in search engine results are kid-oriented. The rest of the links are more focused on adults, but the content is still filtered.

We decided to test this service a bit by typing in some naughty words that children might try to search on the web. It was an easy task for Kiddle. An angry robot appeared on the screen.

Let’s assume your children want to learn more about Justin Bieber but, as a parent you don’t want them to know about some of his silly pranks. For example, you don’t want your kids reading that Justin drove under the influence or posted photos of his bare butt on Instagram. These are the very things that Kiddle would hide, offering only proper pics and text.

Our children live in a digital world, and it’s no surprise that they get acquainted with computers at an early age. The Internet is an inevitable part of our life today, and our kids will need it for studying and communication. But even if we trust our kids, we shouldn’t leave some things to chance.

It seems Kiddle is a great tool for children to use freely, which allows parents to be confident that their child can surf the Internet safely without viewing something inappropriate for their age. We all know we cannot protect our kids from everything, but we can at least try. It is great that companies are trying to help busy parents with the challenging task of raising children!
