YSRC alleges land scam in capital region

The YSR Congress has demanded that the Central government order an inquiry into the “illegal” acquisition of land by senior Telugu Desam Party leaders on the periphery of the capital region Amaravati ahead of announcement of the new capital by the government.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his coterie had prior knowledge about the capital and they had accordingly purchased vast tracts of land around the capital region before an official announcement about the capital was made.

This was nothing short of breach of privilege and misuse of official position by the powers that be, YSRC leader Botcha Satyanarayana said.

The Central government should order an inquiry to ascertain the land transactions that took place in the region after the TDP came to power till the time the capital announcement was made. He alleged that the TDP leaders, including the State and Central Ministers purchased the lands, a majority of them assignment lands, either in their names or under benami transactions.

“Small farmers

ended up losers”

The magnitude of the irregularities could be gauged from the fact that the Chief Minister had appointed a committee headed by Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana at a time when the Central government had set up a committee of experts headed by Sivaramakrishnan to identify suitable land for the capital.

The committee headed by the Minister, comprising entrepreneurs, identified the land and TDP leaders acquired vast tracts of land before an official announcement on the capital was made.

“Mr. Naidu followed the same pattern and inflated prices of land before notifying the Hi-Tec city project during his previous tenure as the Chief Minister of the united State,” he alleged.

He alleged that the senior leaders had taken enough care to see that the land they acquired did not come under the green zone norms and as a result, the lands which were surrendered by poor and marginal farmers were included in the green zone.

The TDP leaders purchased lands at throwaway prices from dalits and tribal people and the prices had now increased manifold.
