Shiva Ratri - What Are We Really Doing

One of my friends who is a mu slim told me if we could do movies and poker all night as its Shivratri. I told him No, we cannot do that. It's the night dedicated to praying all night to lord Shiva to forgive our sins and give us peace and happiness. Then, he said, how come many of his friends stay up all night and just watch movies and play cards. I said then probably they are not hindus.
