On March 8, when Ahmedabad-based Udit Rajpara boarded the Mumbai-Ahmedabad double decker train from Mumbai, he noticed that the glass of the window near his seat was unclean and he couldn’t see through it. He clicked a photograph of the dirty window and posted it on Twitter tagging the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as well as the Divisional Railway Manager of Central Mumbai – “@drmbct @sureshprabhu hard to see through window of train 12931 double decke, coach C7, please tc of it.” Within few minutes, he got a reply to his tweet that said that his problem will be addressed at Valsad station as the window cannot be cleaned in a moving train. The tweet was – “Regret the inconvenience. Unfortunately train does not have on board service. We be attended at Valsad.”

“However, within a few minutes, three people from train staff came to him and spoke to him. The next station was Vapi and before we could reach Valsad – his destination, the window was cleaned at Vapi. Eventually, after each and every station post Vapi, a team of 3-4 people along with supervisor were ready at all stations to clean the window. I was impressed by this prompt action. The supervisor at every station politely asked me if I needed any other assistance,” shared 25-year-old Rajpara, who is a chartered accountant and works for his father’s firm in Ahmedabad.

Rajpara stated that at Valsad station, the station master made him speak to a senior official from western railways on the phone, who too checked with him if his problem was resolved or not.

Confirming the incident, a senior official from Western Railway Mumbai Central, said, “After observing his tweet, line staff were asked to clean the windows. Also, Ahmedabad division was advised for further action.”
