22-year-old Priyanka Bhadoriya from Madhya Pradesh had forwarded a strange demand to her in-laws, before her marriage that caught them surprised. No, she didn’t demand for diamonds or platinums or any cash. She wanted 10,000 saplings to be planted by her in-laws, which was readily accepted and the couple got married on Friday.

Priyanka is a resident of Kishipura village in Bhind district where there is a ritual of asking the bride for ornaments or Gold as a choice of gift on her wedding. So instead of asking for anything expensive, she decided to enrich the nature with more trees.

Her demand for planting saplings was rooted in her farmer father’s struggles with drought and dwindling crop yields that originated from the fast-depleting green cover in the region, reported Hindustan Times.

Priyanka has been planting saplings since the time she was 10-years-old and surprisingly her marriage took place on International Earth Day.

Her husband, Ravi Chauhan, is also happy about the fact that his wife is more concerned about the environment than her own comforts.

Bhadoriya said she wanted 5,000 saplings to be planted at her paternal house and the rest at her in-laws’ place. She also wanted to distribute saplings among other people, including farmers and social workers.

The couple planted three trees in Kishipura village before leaving for Jalaun, where Chauhan’s family stays.
