kaata
My amma is with me in US. She'll be here for a total of 6+ months in this calendar year. A colleague says that I can claim her as my dependent if she has medical insurance. But he is not sure if Bajaj Alliance insurance taken from India qualifies for IRS benefits. Evarikanna telisthe chepagalaru. Thanks in advance.

To be allowed to claim your parent as a dependent, your parent’s earned income cannot be more than$3,900 for the tax year. This means that if your parent earns more than $3,900, you aren’t eligible to claim them as a dependent. Non-taxable income, such as Social Security, does not count toward this amount. US generally taxes world wide income meaning you can also deduct all eligible expenses like health insurance ( from India too)
Spartan
1: Me mother vachedi B1-B2 visitor visa meeda. To claim someone as a dependent in tax terms she needs to be present in US for more than 183 days. B1-B2 vallaki entry is given for 6 months-180 days only. in case year ki rendu sarlu pilpinchukunnav anuko to cover that rule, then u need ITIN number for ur mom. adi kavalante nuvvu tax file chesetappudu next year, me mom di original passport, and me mom should be present for the submission of tax, and ITIN application. ivannai match ayyela cheskunte..appudu ITIN vaste u can claim. PS: I would not go through that mess.
