At least seven officers were injured and at least three of them are feared dead in a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.

Police received a call of "suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle," the source said. When police arrived, the man opened fire.
The remaining officers are hospitalized in critical condition, the source said.
Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish, said authorities were still trying to get a handle on the situation, but added, "The count is three officers dead possibly."
The victims may include police officers and sheriff's deputies.
"There is still an active scene. They are investigating," he said. "Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything."
The shooter is believed to be down as well, Holden said.
"Everything is moving fast and I have not been able to verify everything," he said.

Three officers in Baton Rouge were shot and killed in an apparent ambush Sunday morning, the city's mayor told MSNBC, less than two weeks after a fatal police shooting sparked protests in the city.

At least four others were injured in the shooting, Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden said. He said the officers were responding to a call of shots fired when they were gunned down.

The condition of the gunman was not immediately clear, a Louisiana State Police spokesman told NBC News.

Marquis Gibson, an eyewitness, was at the Hammond Aire Plaza mall when he heard shots and ran inside. "Officers were falling down and hiding," he told NBC News.

A reporter with the Associated Press who was at the scene saw police vehicles with lights flashing massed about a half mile from the police headquarters on Airline Highway. Police armed with long guns on the road stopped at least two vehicles driving away from the scene and checked their trunks and vehicles before allowing them to drive away, the reporter said.

Baton Rouge has been roiled by protests since white officers shot and killed Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, on July 5. Four people were arrested last week in an alleged plot to kill police officers.

last couple of months have been too damn bloody all over. tensions are extremely high at this point though police trying their best to not retaliate. just like angry civilians becoming the judge of the situation and taking law into his hands, if few law enforcement officers reciprocate at this moment, it will become a complete chaos. hope police keep their composure and bring people together.

RIP to the police officers.  There has been a growing climate of hatred against the police officers in this country and in a sad way I was expecting retaliation against the cops.

I for one fully support the police officers in general  in this country - but also mindful that there are bad apples in every profession and that includes the police. We can always rightfully express our concern about police brutality but I would never be part of an agenda or a group that wishes to paint the entire police force in a negative light.

It is my honest opinion that without police - this country would essentially be like the movie purge.

Blue Lives Matter too.
