Kurremula told officers at the scene that Gundam had cut himself while cooking, but he didn’t see the accident happen because he was on their balcony, the affidavit said. Officers found a clean kitchen but saw blood on the balcony, along with broken beer bottles — and a large kitchen knife on the ground below the balcony, “stained with blood,” the affidavit said.

When a detective had a longer conversation with Kurremula, the affidavit said, he said he was holding a knife because he had been cooking and then tripped on Gundam’s leg before falling and stabbing him, the affidavit said.

A neighbor called police just after 3 a.m. Monday and said she heard screaming and crashing noises, Kurremula’s arrest affidavit said. The neighbor told police that “if someone was hurt it was not due to an accident,” the document said.

Kurremula told officers at the scene that Gundam had cut himself while cooking, but he didn’t see the accident happen because he was on their balcony, the affidavit said. Kurremula told officers he and Gundam were having “a casual argument about which of their fathers in India was doing better” and he went out on the balcony, carrying the knife, to confront Gundam about the argument. He said he only wanted to scare Gundam and, by the time he talked to the detective, “he knew he was in a lot of trouble,” the affidavit said.

 

One of Gundam’s friends was also at the apartment at the time. He told officers he had been drunk and was asleep by the time Gundam was stabbed, Kurremula’s affidavit said. He woke up when he heard someone screaming and found Gundam wounded and Kurremula panicking.

Kurremula was in Travis County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $250,000, jail records show.

I really feel bad for victims parents. They might be in lifelong thought that what exactly happened to their son as case dismissed now.
