The two major lift irrigation schemes in drought-hit Mahbubnagar district – Kalwakurthy and Nettampadu – were started during Y S Rajasekhar Reddy regime as part of Jalayagnam. By the time he died in September 2009, his government had completed 60 per cent of the project works and another 30 per cents works during Kiran Kumar Reddy regime.

After the formation of Telangana state, in the last two years, the TRS government did not make any attempt on completing the remaining 10 per cent works, but focussed on redesigning of other projects. However, with the pressure mounting from Opposition, the TRS government has now started completing the Mahbubnagar projects.

As part of that, Harish Rao inaugurated the Nettempadu second lift works at Jurala in Mahbubnagar district. And he claimed that the TRS Government has rewritten the history of Palamur and vowed to mitigate the problems pertaining to irrigation by supplying waters to 8.5 lakh acres by next Kharif season.

As the TRS government was supplying water for irrigation to farmers, the jealous Opposition parties were getting tears in their eyes, he ridiculed.

Harish also lashed out at the Opposition for hatching conspiracies and making baseless criticism. He said the government was spending crores of funds to complete the projects on a war-footing.

Harish alleged that the successive governments deliberately deceived Palamur district and ministers from Telangana could not press them for their rightful share of waters. He said the Supreme Court gave a verdict in favour of Telangana seeking justice, he said.
