July has been ultra-lucky for Bollywood. This month has made up for an otherwise dud year. Most of the big movies that released in July ended up becoming money-spinners. If Sultan broke more box office records than one, Rajinikanth's Kabaliproved that it is the biggest of them all.

Salman Khan Sultan

They don’t call him the Thalaiva for nothing. Rajinikanth’s Kabali broke multiple records on the first day itself and raked in Rs 48 crore in one day, beating Salman Khan’s Sultan badly. Till date, Kabali, which was released on July 22, has managed to earn over Rs 600 crore worldwide! This achievement is a record in itself!

It might be the case of speaking too soon, considering there are still 4 months to go for the year to end, but Kabali might be this year’s biggest hit!

As per trade records, Kabali has raked in Rs 211 crore in India out of which Rs 40 crore was collected from North India. This amount is great since the north of the country is not a conventional base for Rajinikanth films.

However, Kabali’s report card internationally sings a different tune altogether. The film has done phenomenally well not just in USA but also in Malaysia and Japan. According to a report by Financial Express, Kabali has raked in Rs 259 crore in the foreign markets.

In fact, Kabali earned almost Rs 200 crore even before its release. All thanks to deals like music and satellite rights. The film is expected to touch Rs 700 crore in the coming days. It’s like a breath of fresh air, after Rajinikanth’s previous duds likeLinga and Kochadaiiyan.

“I will never forget these days in my life. This release has given me so much happiness. It has broken the collection records of Indian cinema in the last 100 years,” said producer S Thanu.

The overall budget of Kabali was Rs 75 crore, out of which his fee was said to be around Rs 50-60 crore. The cost of making was relatively cheap as young technicians worked on this film. Also, most of the film was shot in Chennai and the only expensive sets were the Malaysia ones.

As we told you earlier, the 10 luxury cars used in the film were gifted by the megastar’s fans!
