will this work for short term plans ?

As per the Obama care, one should be enrolled/covered under health insurance program with no exceptions. otherwise they will be penalised. either 2.5% of annual income or $695 per person.

When you enroll there is no short term plans. but you can discontinue after any number of months. but again you will be penalised for the uncovered number of months.

if you are not covered for two consecutive months, you wont be penalised. if you are not covered for more than 2 months, then there will be penalty.

say for example, you want to enroll in 2017.

then you can skip Jan and FEB and start the enorllement date of march 2017 and then start paying until decemeber 2017/. this way you can avoid and save Jan and Feb premiums.

suppose you started in march 2017 and discontinued in july 2017, then your penality will be calculated for the uncovered months (Aug 2017 to Dec 2017).

I am doing this for the last 2 yrs.

Insurance with employer is BullSheet..

hibernation kadhu man. You can save money.

if you are not confident about your health for that two months, then go and get covered for Jan and Feb as well.
