Khashaba Jadhav was Independent India’s first Olympic medallist. He took to wrestling at the age of 5 and, after overcoming many obstacles, went on to participate in the Olympics in 1948 and 1952. Since he had no funds for his second Olympic stint, his college principal, Professor Dabholkar decided to mortgaged his house and fund Khashaba’s trip to the Helsinki Olympics. After his return, Khasaba organized several wrestling matches,  where he raised and collected money to repay his professor.
