Not Indian mindset, but Andhra-Telangana fight behind search for P V Sindhu's caste

When P V Sindhu was battling for gold against Carolina Marin, many Indians were busy googling for her caste.
As it was pointed out on Reddit and social media if you search for Sindhu, Google auto search feature tries to associate it with another keyword 'caste'. This indicates that many are searching to find out the caste of Indian silver medalist at Rio.
The News Minute did some number crunching drawing data from Google Trends. Search queries for P V Sindhu's caste have been happening over last three months and spiked after she won semi finals.
Some find it disturbing that in 2016 Indians are sticking to their caste mindset, trying to assess a person by the caste she belongs to.
This outrage is a bit overstated. It is not the Indian caste mindset but the dog fight between Andhra Pradesh Vs Telangana  seems to be behind the quest for Sindhu's caste.
Both the states are seeking to claim Sindhu as one of their own. And this is where matters get complicated.
points out that her Ramana was born in Adilabad district of Telangana, while her mother Vijayalakshmi is from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. So, Sindhu evenly splits between the two states.
This confusion perhaps is prompting many to search for her caste as it is possibly to identify the geographical origins of many jathis. 
It gets more confusing as Sindhu's surname Pusarla is used by many castes including Kapu and Arya Vyshyas. Type Pusarla and you will see how Google auto search tries to bring out the caste dimension of it, on popular demand.
As Google trends shows most search queries on Sindhu's caste are coming from the two states of Andhra Pradesh Vs Telangana. A significant number of queries are coming fro USA, which Telugus have embraced as their own.  
If you search for Sakshi Malik, Google auto search will suggest match video, video, coach. For Dipa Karmakar it is Produnova. Saina Nehwal is associated with coach, ranking, Rio, Twitter.
Only Sindhu has the honour of having her caste dug up. And that does not make us castiests, only regional chauvinists.
The last word in this goes to Sindhu's mother Vijayalakshmi, who is perhaps exasperated by the Andhra Pradesh Vs Telangana fight over her daughter.
She said, "Sindhu is Indian first."
