Hyderabad, Sept.13: In yet another significant achievement at the national level, Andhra Pradesh State has achieved 100 per cent household electrification to become the only Second State in the country after Gujarat.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while appreciating the achievement has directed the Energy Department now to set the target of extending world class quality 24x7 uninterrupted power supply to the citizens that too at an affordable price.

Though nearly 35 per cent of rural households across the country mainly in the States of UP, MP, Bihar, Odisha, Assam among others still lack access to one of the basic needs of mankind i.e electricity supply, the State of Andhra Pradesh has achieved 100 per cent household electrification, next to Gujarat in the Country, as per a report published in M/s JM Financial based on a National Level Survey Report.

Andhra Pradesh achieved this distinction in the month of June 2016. Access to electricity is a key socio-economic development indicator - an area where there is still a significant gap in India. As of May 2016, 35 per cent of total rural households in the country do not have electricity supply with sharp variation across the country.

Sharing the details, Ajay Jain stated that, in tune with the instructions of the Chief Minister, the department is chalking out a strategy plan by engaging in a thorough discussion among the Adviser/ Dept. of Energy, Vijayanand CMD/ APTARNSCO & MD/APGenco, M.M. Nayak CMD/ APEPDCL, H.Y.Dora CMD/ APSPDCL, A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy, CEO/SECM and all the functional heads in Generation, Transmission & Distribution sectors.

An Action plan to in the energy department is proposed to be discussed in the forthcoming Collectors’ conference. The points include Reduction of overall Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Losses to Single Digit (Presently around 10.3%) by the end of this Current Financial Year, Reduction of the Power procurement cost by at least 30 -40 paise per unit so as to achieve affordability and Achieving 10% of National Target of 1,75,000 MW Generation through Renewable generation sources such as Solar & Wind by 2022.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh has become the second state in the country after Gujarat to achieve 100 per cent electrification of households, a latest report has said.  JM Financials published the report based on a national -level survey on electrification in various states.

Discussing this through a tele-conference with top officials of the Energy Department today, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, "We achieved 100 per cent electrification by June-end. Now, you have to set a target of ensuring uninterrupted world-class quality power supply."

"Whatever we have achieved in the power sector in the last two years is no doubt very significant, but is not sufficient. We have to render world-class services to the consumers by providing uninterrupted power supply on par with global standards, at affordable prices," he said.

An investment of Rs 20,000 crore has been proposed over the next five years to strengthen the transmission and distribution systems and extend power supply connection on demand, he said.
