Don’t you just love your microwave? Click a button and in just a few minutes you’ll have a meal without bothering a bit. Plus it’s very convenient for last minute bites.

In the US during the last 30years, the microwave has been the favorite cooking option to most people, it has virtually transformed the way we see food and society in general. But, do you really think that this way of cooking is a safe option?

 

Of course, the answer is no. In fact, almost every other way of cooking is better because it allows the nutrients to remain in your food.

Your microwave is actually a form of non-ionizing radiation. The difference with the ionizing radiation is that the second one changes the electromagnetic nature of the atoms, or it ionizes them.

When their electromagnetic nature is changed, the way those atoms interact with other atoms and molecules around them changes as well. We encounter ionizing radiation in modern medicine every time we need to have a scan of some sorts –we can find it in X-rays, gamma radiation as well as nuclear medicine (mammograms, CT-scans and barium swallows).

Now, when you put your food into the microwave, it’s being zapped by high-frequency waves of heat, which is not at all what you would call healthy. Taking this into consideration, it’s no wonder that some people strongly oppose the use of microwaves, since they have a negative effect on your health.

 

If you’re still skeptical, here are 5 of the most common issues and diseases which are believed to be caused by the microwave ovens, that might change your mind:

  • Fatigue – it’s believed that microwave ovens are the number one cause for fatigue and obesity.
  • Insomnia – knowing that it does uses radiation it shouldn’t be a shock to learn that this device can also cause damage to the brain
  • It eliminates antioxidants – The high temperature in the ovens contributes to the destruction of the antioxidant compounds which the food may contain, and this may lead to an increased risk of cholesterol and even heart attacks.
  • Loss of nutrients – and it doesn’t stop only with the antioxidants, it also kills all the flavors in the food
  • Cancer – as it is a source of radiation, this also shouldn’t be a surprise, the radiation on which youare exposed by the food you consume accumulates in the body and can eventually lead to cancer.

Although it can be helpful for the moment, the microwave can damage your health and you need to be careful and moderate with its use. It would be wise to opt for a safer option even if it takes longer for you to prepare your meal.
