If you want to go into Devops you need to be good in atleast one scripting language other than bash. Python is a good option. You don't need programming but you should learn scripting. Na personal opinion ayite learn Ruby as most tools like Chef and puppet are developed in Ruby and also AWS Opsworks uses chef internally for automation.

If you are working in a openstack(Rack space) environment then you will need python and Ansible (similar to chef aquired by Red Hat).

Also its good to know basics of web programming, Restful and SOAP services.

both are inter-dependent man

and DevOps is not a tech to learn. An Org uses feedback from operations issues and fix them at operations itself , instead of sending bug to feature team for development. Both Operations and featured dev team work together here. Dont be ignorant enough to call DevOps a technology infront of anyone again. It only show your immaturity

Good point, very well described bhayya. I work in DevOps and I agree with what you have mentioned. Also Ruby is much more elegant than Python.
