The point is, a group of people have the right to referendum. Kashmiris managed to convince Nehru to give them that right. The others weren't that clever.

You are expecting too much from Modi tatha. He is no Vajpayee. And more over India doesn't have assets to do something ibig n Pak. Morarjee Deshai tho matta gadusipoyindhi unna assets. Pak having nuclear weapons, we can't do anything. The only potent weapon that didn't use so far is Indus treaty water. It is time to repeal the treaty. Pak broke Simla agreement, Agra agreement, UN las of allowing transit for landlocked countries, Geneva Convention during the Kargil war. Still we didn't repeal. There is something terribly wrong with Indian polity. God knows when that will change.May be it is the time.

What exactly do you propose India do with that extra water?

How long would it take to plan to break such treaties? considering the need to build dams to divert water towards Indian peninsula. Is this a decision that someone can take on a whim?

First of all, who said that it is extra water we are providing. Its the only major source of water for the west punjab which is the reason for all the conflicts (Sindh, Baloch, NWFP are relatively ok with India). Its strategical step to build iin long term solution. Already Krishna Ganga is in progress, but within the treaty agreement. We need more of them to divert and also to flood. We can have multiple dams and release them at a whim when things like these Mumbai happens to flood. can also be used to dry up almost the entire west Punjab. Don't think it is to do at whim. It is to tell them to act/behave well or face the consequences for next N number of years.
