India are top of Group A after three matches and boast of 11 points. But South Korea, who beat India on the opening day, have played two and can overtake the hosts when they play next.

Ajay Thakur almost gets a super raid. But his barge and push attempt at a raid is foiled as he gets pushed off the court.

Ajay Thakur has been immense for India tonight. 9 raid points already and it must be noted that he came off the bench for the hosts. One point away from a super raid… India up 44-17

ALL OUT! The third of the match from India on Bangladesh. Mohit Chillar with good defensive work to grab the Bangladeshi player by the ankle and India lead 39-15

That was superb and quick work by an Indian raider to quickly sneak in and come back with a successful raid.

Sandeep Narwal getting into the thick of things with a strong tackle and India continue to shine in this contest. Lead 34-13

The second half begins and Bangladesh are the first to register a point. A successful raid reduces their gap. Ajay Thakur with a point of his own to make it 28-11

And at half time, India lead Bangladesh by 27-10. Pardeep Narwal with six points to his name and supported by Manjeet Chillar and Anup Kumar with three points each

A do-or-die raid for Bangladesh and Sandeep Narwal denies them that pleasure. Superb display of shoulder strength to get his side a point with strong defense

Bangladesh reduced to a single person on their side. Suliemann Kabir the solitary green shirt to defend and attack. And his attempt at attack is foiled by a team effort by India. Second all out for India and they lead by 24-9

Manjeet and Kuljeet with a double effort to deny Bangladesh a successful raid. Push the Bangladesh player off the court

Almost buillying by Pardeep Narwal to touch multiple Bangladesh players and keeps the run of strong raiding going. India lead 18-7 in the first half

India vs Argentina, Kabaddi World Cup 2016: India 74-20 Argentina

The final match of the day sees hosts India face Argentina. India, who are eyeing top spot in Pool A, have 11 points from their three matches. After losing their opener against the Koreans, Anup Kumar-led side has bounced back quite comfortably and have defeated Australia and neighbours Bangladesh with huge margins. Indians who rely on Pardeep Narwal, will not make much changes in their game plan and will like to stick to the basics against the newcomers. Only thing to worry will be Argentine raiders as they have performed quite well in their games against Australia and South Korea. As the South American side is out of the contention for a place in the semis, they will come out with all guns charged and hoping for another upset for the home side.

FULL TIME: India win by a big 74-20 margin against Argentina. The home side move on to 16 points from four games. Missed out on the highest score at this World Cup by a single point. Poland still with the record of highest score at 75.

Kabaddi World Cup 2016: After initial setback, India display domination to enter semi-final

India showed complete domination over England to win 69-18 and advance to semi-final of Kabaddi World Cup

A whopping 51 points separated India and England, as the hosts outclassed their opponents 69-18 in their final Group A match. As such, India finally qualified for the semi-final – yet their overpowering of the England team gave a glimpse of a different mindset the hosts have steadily been developing as the tournament progressed.

Two men remained on court for England at the 12th minute of play. The visitors were struggling against the Indian team they had long studied through Pro Kabaddi League videos and even from the sidelines of the Kabaddi World Cup. Now they had to defend against suffering another all out. Ajay Thakur was active, as was boy-wonder Pardeep Narwal. Then there was ‘captain cool’ Anup Kumar himself. Yet in stepped Sandeep Narwal to make the crucial raid.

Through most of the tournament, the 22-year-old all-rounder has been deployed predominantly as a defender, manning the right-corner position in the starting seven. Rarely would he be called up to raid. But against England, India had a new strategy. An attack-minded one. And so Narwal strolled in, slapped his palm on Nikesh Farmah’s chest before cleverly dodging Keshav Gupta’s challenge – patting his back in the process – and heading back to the midline to give India the all-out.

For a team that boasts an overwhelmingly powerful raiding unit, it is the hosts’ defensive structure that has been all the more telling. Not against England though. Coach Balwan Singh seemed to have instructed his players to provide an attacking display to mark their qualification into the playoff stages. As such, off the 44 raids that the Indian players did make, only one turned out to be unsuccessful.

With the marauding strategy in place, the Indians marched into a 45-6 lead by halftime – the biggest lead at the break by any team in this edition of the event so far.

Teenager Pardeep meanwhile starred in the performance, providing 13 raid points in as many raids while Thakur notched up a further 11. In turn the defenders too put on an equally comprehensive show, led by centre-defender Surjeet who almost single-handedly quashed England’s hopes of early raid points. The defender applied his coveted dash move to powerfully drive raiders out of play, particularly Tope Adewalure – England’s star raider.

The Englishman did eventually manage to secure the four raid points he needed to become the first in the event to reach 50 points. But that was not before the corner-duo of Mohit Chillar and Surender Nada was subbed on to begin their own two-man torment of the English attack.

India was well expected to reach the semi-final before the tournament even began. Despite the setback in the opener against South Korea, the playoff berth has been secured. The hosts will now face either Thailand or Japan, while the possibility of facing Iran still lurks.
