of course surgical strikes were planned and executed exceptionally well....read up more on that...isolating pak and garnering international support in doing so is one thing Modi did perfectly well...

south india lo state level lo BJP gelavaka povachu..but national interest vishayam lo Hinduism vishalyam lo they will move more towards RW....

see how easily you float around terms like bigots hindutva...etc....this is what i was talking about....if an avg Hindu proudly says He is proud of his background and believes that India is primarily a Dharmic country (we are no doubt plural now ..not secular mind it ...)--whats wrong in that.. when was India not polarized on religious basis...what was 1947 all about...and if you think now Indian society is more polarized than it was .say 5 years back..then you are talking about Twitter world and online ranting...ground level people are still how they were before...no one cares much for this....except during elections and when they have to choose from someone who taps into their core ideologies (like modi) ....

haha.. what is Dharmic society? what place do different sections of society have in that 'dharmic' society? How do reservation whiners fit into this 'dharmic' society? What is the view on reparations to dalits for 1000s of years of abuse?

the problem with Hindutva is, it has no deep thinkers that shallow people like me can follow. Almost every Hindu thinker has morphed into an asshole now. case in point, Rajiv Malhotra, and even balagangadhara. Uttering openly anti dalit nonsense, just because they think they are vassals for western hegemony.

What about dalit leaders who call for stop to conversion, like Thirumavalavan in TN? Has the right embraced them? dharmic society has a lot to set the tone for, before asking the rest of us peasants to follow it blindly.

is inclusion even part of the dharmic society? or is it every man for himself?

how come right to education is an anti Hindu

because it applies only to Hindu schools. Other schools are exempt. It is the worst anti-Hindu law ever passed.

Just for this, Congress deserved to lose.

bigots have angered a section of people but don't think they have polarized indian society opinion. just nuisance value.

this is my observation. biggest churning that is taking place in india is amongst the rural dominant upper caste like jats, patels, maratas, kapus not against govt but against people benefiting from reservations. Just look at the agitations recently.

with declining agriculture they see their dominance decreasing and even finding difficulty in sustaining or running house. here they see fellow villagers benefiting from reservations and moving up the ladder. this is causing anger amongst them. In future this might go up really big.

There is soft polarization. I can feel it whenever I talk to my relatives back in India. People are more openly talking about nationalism, than before. I don't see how it is good.

Under the current climate, you just blame someone for being anti-national, and people won't care even if he's clubbed to death on the streets. Calling someone a bigot, like Congress used to, didn't have such consequences.

Yes, anger against reservations is the biggest change in India. This is not BJP's making. But BJP is not doing anything to fight against it. Congress wouldn't do anything too. AAP has been clear that it is BJP 2.0

Under these conditions, calling for nationalism is the worst idea ever.

so the solution to this reservation problem according to the 'Dharmic' society, is to go back 50yrs when dalits knew their place, is it?

Not more data driven research to come up with better reservation system. Not more outreach to oppressed classes.

So what is the difference between anti-Hindu Congress and pro-Hindu BJP?

again you are back to reservations...i maintain reservations is a non issue for 90% of UC hindus...now lately some UC have started to demand reservations for themselves. and i always said I understand their displeasure .....

so anything Rajiv malhotra kinda people write is nonsense because you dont like it....he is a well researched person as far as I can tell...when he questions the appropriation of every thing positive about HIndu like yoga meditation and other things by the west and branding Hindusim only as castesim is a good thing...

so Dharmic society doesn't want to address contentious issues. They only want to boast about imagined historical accomplishments.

So how exactly do you think you can build a 'big tent' to keep winning elections? Do people vote on basis of religion these days? I don't think so.

How many times can you invade pakistan to fire up the base, before international community comes down hard on you?

What Rajiv writes is nonsense because he doesn't address the issues. We must learn from the European right wing parties, that support complete healthcare, complete social security, higher taxes, and not from US right wing, which is corporatist (Trump is an exception).

Does the dharmic society have any such plans to take care of the poorest among Indians?

The only such plans I have seen in India are from TN and Kerala. which others are slowly adopting, after mocking Tamils for being addicted to 'freebies'.

All this talk about some enlightened Dharmic society are nonsense. They can't even come up with a decent right wing magazine that can compete with EPW.

The standards right wingers strive for is NDTV, CBN, India Today.

i support dalit reservation for another 1000 yrs. however some reform needs to be done. poorer section continue being poor while son of dalit IPS officer takes the cake. bjp cannot do reform as uplifted upper/middle class dalits are its supporters. no party will dare a reform.

Uppercases have problem with obcs coz the space is squeezed. there is genuine anger and frustration amongst the poor sections of UC and this needs to be addressed.

again u are missing the actual point i was trying to make....when I said Hindus are fighting back the propaganda battle i even include OBCs and dalits...esp in states like UP....branding entire Hindusim as nothing but casteism and pampering musilms and christians is what i was largely referring to.....these are the same people who talk about islamophobia and are ready to attack hindus on Hindutva ...which i still maintain is a bogey....except for some nut jobs...VHP and bajrang dal are mostly sidelined now.....when i said dharmic i did not mean dalits are excluded or anything ...and what makes you think dalits themselves dont identify as dharmics..i was talking about an avg Hindu (whatever caste they may be) ..how he was made to feel guilty and communal just for openly saying something good about Hinduism or its rich culture....dalits will be accommodated into the power structure sooner or later no other choice....out of morality of compulsion is a diff issue and if it is because of the former i will be happy but doesnt matter either way...

Rajiv kinda people have chosen one of the many issues on the RW agenda and they are pursuing it....RW govts in India are rare ..this is only the second one NDA2 ....and there are people who write on economic policies from RW perspective but they are very few i agree...because we have been a socialist country for 70 years....and still people find it objectionable to deride nonsensical policies of nehru era....

Poverty in india has nothing much to do with the dharmic society....do some research on the economic policies from 1947 and how they effected the poor....social atrocities on dalits is a diff topic but economic status of dalits or for that matter any Group has nothing to do with hindusim..it is because of commumist/socialist policies econimic wise

so what are we supposed to do? simply support BJP because its 'nationalistic'? even when it doesn't care much about one section of the society?

BJP didn't even want caste based census. What sort of 'nationalism' is that?

right wingism doesn't work in a diverse country like India. State govts (some of them) do a much better job at keeping their bases happy, compared to the central govt.

Hinduism is not that powerful to unite the entire country. It was obvious to everyone during Kaveri issue recently.

okay, you are confusing so many terms here.

Lets be clear. You are for cultural right. Which is not very different from France's Marie le page, and other such parties all over Europe. You should read their agenda. It includes social security, single payer healthcare, high taxes, restrictions on globalization, etc. Everything you just characterized as 'communism' or nehru era.

I know right wingers in India love the economic right, which talks about free markets, and low taxes, but it doesn't sit with cultural right. The best proponent of cultural right in India is Govindacharya, who was in RSS and is now with some morcha. I do respect him. I'm okay with such a rightist state in India.

---------

I understand that Hindutva people have been laughed at for decades now. I was on that side as well. I know. and that you guys are now fighting the ideological battle. But what's the point of the battle, if you don't come up with new ideas? Ideas on how to define Dharmic society, and how to include dalits and even muslims and xians?

What are you fighting for, otherwise? dalits who fight with the RW will eventually be disillusioned, given how UC dominates the right wing in India.

tokkale,

I think right wing politics works better at state level in India. dravidian politics, TG movement, are all examples of right wing politics in India.

I don't understand why we have to be stuck with the term 'Hindu', to define our politics.

I won't say that dravidian is inclusive of dalits, but I remember being extremely proud of my state when I noticed from afar that at the height of 2005-06 anti reservation battle that was raging all across India, TN was the only state that supported it.

hmm..i dont see how cultural right (BJP in this case) and econimic right wont gel in Indian context....point me to the nehru era policies which are in line with the RW policies you mentioned and also (if there are any such policies at all) how successfully the left/congress implemented them in 65 years of their rule...

economic battles will take some time as i said because of the mess we are in....we are a poor country and expecting it to change over night is asking for too much...

and for me the dharmic battle is also as important as the economic one ..India is the only Hindu majority country and I would want it to be like that....

do you seriously believe if the demographics of india are changed where Hindus lose majority India will be stable....but from what I can tell you are not for india's sovereignty ..so for you it may not be a pblm...but now for many hindus of our generation it is an issue which you cannot brush off terming it as bigotry and  polarization....that is what the left has been doing for may years and have clearly led up to this pent up anger among hindus on the cultural front...
