these days cities which are innovating gets lots of investments.....it applies to any cities in the world......may be phoenix has its edge

Saw an article the other day saying the Midwest is actually the next innovation hub of US. 

Also saw one stating it's Denver. 

Bottom line is take this with a lot of salt. 

Austin however has an edge compared to a lot of other cities.

SF has more chances of damage from the Earthquake than LA.

I lived there for 3 years, not a bad place per se but you are right there are lots of snakes around and rattlesnakes at that. However, this is not a problem if you are living in the city, only becomes a problem if you are living near the mountains etc. My relatives have been living there for 17 years and they never had a snake come through into their yard ever.

recently there have been snakes more in scottsdale, phoenix. Man its scary... And nightmare is scorpions. Do you know the antidote medicine for scorpion bit is around $25K and which doesn't cover in insurance.
