NTT Data buys Plano-based Dell Services for $3.1 billion

NTT Data, Inc. has closed on its $3.1 billion deal to buy Plano-based Dell Services.

The new business will be called NTT DATA Services on an “interim basis,” the company said in a release. The Japan-headquartered NTT Data has its North American base in Plano.

Talks between the two sides were first reported in March, as Dell began to look for ways to lessen the financial burden of its mega deal to purchase EMC for $67 billion.

When the Round Rock-based computer maker purchased Perot Systems in 2009 for $3.9 billion, it was seen as a way to diversify the company’s offerings. It later turned the company into Dell services.

NTT Data moved its North American headquarters to North Texas in 2013, around the same time the company signed a 5-year, $190 million contract with TxDOT.
