Standard Deduction and Personal Exemption

The standard deduction for single and married couples filing jointly will not increase in 2016 (Table 2). For taxpayers filing as head of household, it will increase by $50 from $9,250 to $9,300.

The personal exemption for 2016 will be $4,050.

Table 2. 2016 Standard Deduction and Personal Exemption (Estimate)

Filing Status

Deduction Amount

Single

 $6,300.00

Married Filing Jointly

 $12,600.00

Head of Household

 $9,300.00

Personal Exemption

Source: Author’s Calculations.

Assume total income  = 100k

if Single - you pay tax for 100-6300 = 93400

pelli ayeta joint file chestav..adme qn.

if both earning..daniki tax bracket veruga untadi.

based on combined income u decide wether to pay individually or joint.

To file as head of household:
  1. You must be single or have been separated for the last half of the year.
  2. You must have a qualifying dependent live with you at least half the year. (Unless it's a parent:.)
  3. You must have paid more than half the maintenance costs for the home where you and the dependent lived.

if u r married with one kid,

then add that personal exemption to that joint std deduction and pay tax for that.

so inthis case tax income  = 100k - (12600+4050)
