Nasir Al Mulk Mosque

Nasir Al Mulk Mosque

This was recently on the FP of Imgur. This mosque resides in Shiraz, one of the more prominent cities of Iran (which you may know for their wine). It is also known as the pink mosque, known for the vibrant pink color tiles. The mosque was built in the 1880s and is available to the public.

Crystal and glass mosques (Shah Cheragh image)

Crystal and glass mosques (Shah Cheragh image)

Persians have always been known to be a bit...extravagant in their usage of gold, chandeliers and overall shiny things. Pictured is the Shah Cheragh mosque which is also located in Shiraz. It translated to "King of the Light" and is a burial place for two brothers and has a legend about a light being emitted from a grave yard. Work has been done to this place continuously for at least 1000 years. Another picture below.

Persepolis

Persepolis

Persepolis used to be one of the largest cities and capitols of the world circa 500BC. Today much of it is in ruin. However, similarities have been found between sculptures here, Egypt, and many other places you would find ruin. It may be due to trade routes. The city used to be called Parsa (Persia). One of the homes here belonged to Xerxes (from the movie 300) and eventually a fire broke out that was believed to be started by Alexander the Great after they looted the city, most likely as revenge.

Shah Mosque

Shah Mosque

It is insanely difficult to tell the size of the mosque without seeing it for yourself. There are no images I could find with bananas for scale, but hopefully this one gives an idea.

Vank Cathedral

Vank Cathedral

Built around the 1600s, this cathedral was dedicated to Armenian refugees. If you're wondering, yes, these are Christian depictions and include paintings from the time of Eden and even Jesus Christ.

Imam Reza holy shrine

Imam Reza holy shrine

I'll try to make this the last shrine or tomb I post and move onto other things. This shrine was built after the Imam Reza, and is the largest mosque in the world. Obviously, a common area for prayer and meditation.
