A photo clicked yesterday shows how Chennai men stand in long queues in front of TASMAC preparing themselves for a total shutdown.

Puratchi Thalaivi J Jayalalithaa , 68, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, passed away in Chennai's Apollo Hospital last night.

Amma was declared dead at 11.30 PM yesterday by Apollo Hospital authorities. However, Tamil media channels reported her demise even before Apollo confirmed the news.

While millions were shocked hearing the announcement of Amma's demise, there were some who were perhaps preparing themselves for it and for the total shutdown in Tamil Nadu that would have followed. A photo clicked yesterday, showing many men standing in a queue in front of a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), state-run retail liquor outlets, was shared on Twitter by @vasudevan_k.

Soon after Apollo released the statement about Amma's demise, the Prohibition and Excise Department declared that all TASMAC outlets and bars will be closed for three days i.e December 6, 7 and 8 as a mark of paying respect to Amma.
