Demonetisation: ACB Lost Seized Cash In Revanth's Case

Modi's flash announcement of demonetization is not only posing severe ordeals to people across the country but even the Telangana ACB seems to have become a victim, though due to its own blunder.

According to the latest reports, the Telangana ACB recently turned the Rs.50 lakh 'tainted money', which was seized during a raid on TDP MLA Revanth Reddy in the in 2015 cash for vote scandal, into fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) after getting permission from the special court in  view of demonetization.

But shockingly, the T-ACB forgot to make an inventory of the demonetized cash, which, according to legal experts, may water down the cash for vote case. Even the special public prosecutor V Surender Rao, who was appointed to prosecute the case, was not informed by the ACB about the 'tainted money' being deposited in the bank.

Even though the ACB could retain the life of the currency by depositing it in the bank, they have now lost traces of the seized cash completely, which is a key evidence for the prosecution in the case.

Legal experts opine that the ACB officials should have photocopied the tainted currency or noted down the details of series of denominations of the 'caught currency'. ACB's shockingly callous move may dilute the cash for vote case, experts say.

Apparently, this photocopying or noting down the serial numbers of the currency notes should be done in the presence of the accused, prosecutors and the judge would then certify the documents marking it as an exhibit or a piece of evidence. In November, the ACB told the ACB special court that it could not track the source of the 'tainted money
