White mestri vs desi mestri

There is nothing wrong in trying to get rich but the method we choose is what's going to decide our future and repercussions thereafter.  In this thread I am going to provide some facts based on my experiences and differentiate between typical desi mestri and white mestri, who want to take advantage of IT boom and advancements in IT.  For simplicity reason, let's assume both have eligibility to start a business in US.

Typical Mestri - Registers a name and domain. This is where Mestri makes his first mistake. He uses his kid's or some unappealing name in a hurry (I said hurry because he wants to take advantage of GC from day 1 and firm name is copied from other IT firms) for the company name not realizing that to build a brand, name is going to be crucial. He will pay some minimal amount and creates a website with basic stuff that has same exact content of other 999+ firms. He will not reveal this to anyone except to people in his family and do not try to partner with anyone else, because he thinks by taking help from other firms, he will need to give away part of profit. Acts alone. Puts some guy offshore initially for marketing and relies on job portals for jobs. It doesn't matter how many other similar firms are there in between the client and contractor for a job he found in job portal, all he wants is some revenue. 10 years later still in same business with no change but with few more employees who are now anytime ready to blow up his business because of the things he has been doing for the past 10 years.

White Mestri - Registers a name and domain. Figures out the name is going to be crucial and take some time to arrive at a name. Takes a lot more time creating content in his website and articles about the technology he wants to focus. Talks to all the people in his circle and partner with some already established firms with an agreement to share revenue until he gets some references and builds some reputation. Pays an yearly fee to the product owners to become preferred vendor and does some certifications. Invests in employees training and skills. Attends conferences/ lunch events and builds come connections with C-level people. Finally gets the first project and uses it as reference for upcoming projects and grows exponentially. 10 years later, he will have an opportunity to sell the firm to Private Equity firms or keep running and make it global.

Now decide for yourself which firm you want to work for or which type of firm you want to establish.

Good points. Let's face it our desi mestris aren't in this business for sustainability while most of the tella mestris are. Most of the desi mestris I have seen seem to accept the fact that they won't be in business for more than 10 years if that, and they are desperate to make a quick buck before their business gets closed down.

Plus when it comes to dealing with people and inter personal skills, most desi mestris have a very poor command of the language and can't even compile a proper sentence. So how do you expect them to compete with the tella vendors and give a presentation to a client in order to win a project. That's less than 1% of desi mestris, the ones who have the ability to do that.

Agreed. I guess the 2 most important things that decide the business path are future goals, and skill set of mestri. A typical desi mestri thinks only short-term and lacks skills to connect with people needed to build the business. White mestri is exact opposite.

Majority of typical desi mestris don't ever interact with the clients of his employees..oka layer ga undatam mana vallaki baaga istam.

Desi IT consulting company can be best summed up as Commission business.
