Mumbai: After about an year in exile, the “voice of cricket’ in India, Harsha Bhogle, is all set to comeback with the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 10.

The cricket commentator, however, is likely to be present as a panellist in the studio and not in the commentary box, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror.

The decision has been taken as Pakistani experts Ramiz Raja, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar are not available due to strained ties between India and Pakistan, it is learnt. The change of BCCI’s top brass has also helped Bhogle’s case.

Bhogle was dropped from the commentary team by BCCI about a year ago just before the beginning of IPL 9, when some senior Indian cricketers allegedly objected to his criticism of them.

Some of the big names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay were reportedly not pleased with Bhogle and there were also complaints about his commentary not being India centric during the World T20 last year.

There was an incident during the World T20 when Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "With all due respects, it would be really worthy of an Indian commentator to speak more about our players than others all the time."

This was retweeted by Dhoni and Bhogle’s contract was not renewed after some of the Indian players reportedly told the BCCI that they will not speak to Bhogle on air.

Hope bhogle is back......big fan of him........

IPL 2017: Squad strengths, weakness and prediction

Sunrisers Hyderabad

CRICKET-T20-IPL-IND-KOLKATA-HYDERABAD : News Photo The defending champions have signed two Afghan players

The IPL 2016 champions made some smart buys in the auction with the most expensive being young Rashid Khan from Afghanistan and his team mate Mohammad Nabi, being a smart pick at the base price of INR 30 lakhs. The Sunrisers have a settled pace bowling line-up, hence they targeted a couple of spinners to add variety and succeeded in grabbing a few.

Strengths: A strong bowling line up, which was the key to SRH winning the title in 2016, has got more bite with the inclusion of spinners like Pravin Tambe, Rashid Khan and Nabi besides adding a death over specialist in Chris Jordan. SRH also have some useful seam bowling all-rounders in Moises Henriques, Ben Cutting and Ben Laughlin.

Weakness: Their batting line-up is top heavy with David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan followed by Kane Williamson (though it remains to be seen if he will get into the final XI) and Yuvraj Singh. The middle and lower middle order looks a little light on paper and this is where local talents like Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Tanmay Agarwal and the experienced Naman Ojha will have to come good and complement their bowlers.

Prediction: A place in the play-off.

IPL 2017: Sam Billings believes England stars will benefit from T20 exposure

Sam Billings
As well as the IPL and Pakistan Super League, Sam Billings has played in the Big Bash for Sydney Sixers.

Kent's Sam Billings believes experience of tournaments such as the Indian Premier League and Australia's Big Bash can only improve English cricketers.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Billings is one of eight England players at IPL 2017, double the number who played last year.

"It gives you another platform to progress as a cricketer," the 25-year-old told BBC Radio Kent.

"My game's gone from strength to strength, playing international cricket around the world."

Billings played five games for the Delhi Daredevils in last year's IPL and has been retained for this year's tournament, which runs from 5 April to 21 May.

Every franchise this year includes an English player, with Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes and Tymal Mills also taking part.

'You have 60,000 people abusing you'

Delhi Daredevils' stadium holds 45,000 fans - Sam Billings' usual Kent home at Canterbury has a capacity of just 7,000

Billings has also played in the Big Bash, for Sydney Sixers, and the Pakistan Super League, for Islamabad United, and feels the perception of English cricketers is changing as a result.

"Ten years ago, if you said an Englishman would go over and play in an Australian team, people would laugh at you," he said.

"I think we had 10 former or current English internationals playing in that, so we've definitely been put on the map.

"I'm really excited for the IPL. It's a fantastic competition, one of the best in the world.

"To have 60,000 people screaming at you and abusing you is a different concept, but it's an amazing experience.

"It's re-energised the game and given it a boost. It's just great fun."
