Murali Vijay to miss IPL 2017; Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav set to miss start

While Murali Vijay is likely to be ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav are set to skip the opening games

India and Kings XI Punjab opener Murali Vijay is likely to miss the 2017 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as per reports on Friday. Vijay, who had missed the Bengaluru Test against Australia owing to a shoulder injury, is likely to sit out the tournament.

Vijay will join his India teammates KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin, both of whom have been reported to likely miss the upcoming IPL season, on the sidelines.

While Rahul has been nursing a shoulder injury, Ashwin underwent scans in Mumbai after the Dharamsala Test for a sports hernia.

On the other hand, India bowlers Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav are likely to skip the initial phase of the tournament, according to a report in Wisden India.

Both Umesh and Jadeja recently finished a grueling Test season with the Indian team, playing a key role in the side’s prolific run of 10 wins in 13 match.

India skipper Virat Kohli is already doubtful for the starting games in the tournament, with Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Daniel Vettori saying that AB de Villiers would captain the side in case Kohli is unable to recover in time.
