Hand in hand with its breakthrough 10th season, the Indian Premier League is set to re-activate its immensely popular Fan Park initiative for the third consecutive year. As befits the landmark 10th season of the IPL, the latest edition of the Fan Park promises to be bigger and better.

Launched in 2015, initially in 16 cities, this year’s edition of the Fan Park will be held in 36 cities in 21 states, bringing fans across the length and breadth of India closer to their beloved sport. These include 14 new cities, like Bhubaneswar, Bareilly, Kochi, Ludhiana, Tumkur and Nagercoil which will host the Fan Park for the first time, as well as cities like Shimla and Shillong, where the passion for cricket has only recently exploded into a frenzy that continues to grow with each passing season of the league.

Each venue will broadcast all the action of the IPL Live on giant TV screens, creating a stadium-like feel for fans practically in their backyards. Entry will be free and furthermore, there will be music and multiple stalls for merchandise, food, beverages and other activations by IPL’s official sponsors, which will add to the electric atmosphere.

Last season saw a massive turnout of 3,00,000 cricket enthusiasts who experienced the IPL live at the Fan Parks. The 10th edition is expected to generate a greater turnout with organizers leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful season.

The first VIVO IPL Fan Park for the 2017 season will be held on April 5th in Guwahati, Mathura, Aurangabad and Mysore. The countdown has begun.

IPL 2017: Hyderabad to host final, no reserve day for playoffs

Hyderabad will host the final of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday.

The IPL, which will run from April 5 to May 21, will see Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium hosting Qualifier 1, the first match in the knockout stage on May 16.

Bangalore will host two knockout matches -- the Eliminator (May 17) and the Qualifier 2 on May 19.

“A reserve day is available for the Final but not the other three playoff matches,” said the BCCI statement.

The first qualifier is played between the top two teams of the league stage. The winners enter the summit clash while the losing team takes on the winners of the Eliminator -- played between the third and fourth placed teams -- for the other final slot in the Qualifier 2.

Knight Riders replace Russell with de Grandhomme

Kolkata Knight Riders have bought in New Zealand allrounder Colin de Grandhomme as a replacement for Andre Russell, who is currently serving out a one-year ban for a doping-code violation.

De Grandhomme, a medium-pace bowler and a lower-order batsman, made his debut for New Zealand in February 2012. In seamer-friendly conditions, he is capable of generating enough lateral movement to trouble the batsman despite his leisurely pace of 120 kph. He took 6 for 41 in his first Test against Pakistan in November last year. Making him a value addition is his batting strike-rate in all T20 cricket - a whopping 171 after 91 innings.

Considering a relaid Eden Gardens pitch afforded surprising assistance to the fast bowlers in its first international match, Knight Riders appear to be stocking up on pace bowling options. They already have Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile, both known for generating swing and seam.

Despite the reinforcement, Knight Riders would feel Russell's absence. He was an important part of their title-winning run in 2014 and was Man of the Tournament in 2015.

"We are not on the back foot," the allrounder Yusuf Pathan said. "Russell was an important cog in our wheel not only on-field, but in the dressing room also. He is a great character to have. There are situations when players miss out. He will be missed in the dressing room. But we have to look ahead and work with what we have."

Captain Gautam Gambhir, however, chose to look at things differently. "Either we can see Russell's absence as a challenge or look at it as an opportunity in bold letters," he told PTI. "I as an individual, and KKR as a group, are looking it as an opportunity."

Knight Riders begin their IPL campaign on April 7 against Gujarat Lions in Rajkot.

Colid de Grandhomme famously took a six-fer against Pakistan on Test debut.

Watson to stand in as Royal Challengers captain

Australian allrounder Shane Watson has been named interim captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The franchise has had to dig deep into their contingency plans over the past week. When it was learnt that the shoulder injury that Virat Kohli sustained would rule him out of the initial stages of the tournament, coach Daniel Vettori had said AB de Villiers would captain the team.

But, de Villiers was ruled out of the opening game of the season on April 5. He had missed playing the final of the Momentum Cup - South Africa's premier one-day tournament - on Friday with a back injury, according to a tweet from CSA. And though he has joined the franchise in Bengaluru and was among the players who trained at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, Vettori thought it was best to give de Villiers more time to recuperate.

"He still has some minor discomfort and we felt that couple of days off would be best before we have him back in action," Vettori said. "We hope to see him on the field in good form by 8th April match against Delhi Daredevils."

Meanwhile, 19-year old batsman Sarfaraz Khan sustained an injury to his leg at practice on Monday and is likely to miss IPL 2017.
