Vishnu Vinod, Hilfenhaus signed by RCB and DD as replacements

Delhi Daredevils (DD) have roped in Ben Hilfenhaus as replacement for JP Duminy, while Vishnu Vinod, the Kerala batsman, has been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in place of the injured KL Rahul for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

The 23-year-old Vishnu Vinod impressed with his showings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (176 runs at an average of 44) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Inter Zonal Trophy (strike-rate of over 160 in the tournament). This is the first time the Pathanamthitta-born batsman has been picked to play in the IPL.

Meanwhile, the signing of Australian pacer Hilfenhaus, who was earlier part of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, comes as a surprise considering that he's replacing Duminy, a batting all-rounder. Hilfenhaus has not played an IPL game since 2014.

Duminy pulled out of the tournament citing personal reasons. "It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I'm grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege to have played for and led a talented mix of players. I certainly hope to play a part for the franchise in the near future," he had then said.

Rahul, who had an excellent Test series against Australia, injured his shoulder during the Pune Test. He played through the injury and amassed a total of six fifties in the four-match series. The Karnataka batsman has now flown to London to undergo surgery, ruling him out of IPL 10.

"His absence will be definitely felt by the team but both Kedar Jadhav and AB de Villiers are accomplished wicket keepers and we would look at one of them to take up the charge," RCB coach Daniel Vettori had said after it was confirmed that Rahul would miss the entire season.

Rahul's absence posed fresh problems for the RCB think tank, with respect to the wicketkeeper's spot. Currently, Kedar Jadhav is filling in the role, while De Villiers has ruled himself out of the keeper's role with a troublesome back.

Dhoni reprimanded for breach of IPL Code of Conduct

Rising Pune Supergiant former skipper MS Dhoni has been reprimanded by the match referee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's tournament opener against Mumbai Indians, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday (April 6).

Though no official reason has been given for the reprimand, Dhoni has admitted to the Level 1 offence (Article 2.1.1) for conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game. No fine has been imposed on the Pune wicketkeeper.

For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.

In the high-scoring encounter, Dhoni had gestured for a DRS referral after on-field umpire S Ravi turned down an LBW appeal against MI's Kieron Pollard, off the bowling of Imran Tahir. The TV replays confirmed that the West Indies' allrounder, then batting on 6, was hit on the pad and the ball would have crashed into the middle stump.
