Usually, these fake recruiters/layers aren't properly trained, recruiters. They do what they have been told to do blindly and have no idea about the industry.

Firstly, try to talk them as professionally as possible..and try to ask as many questions as possible.

secondly, ask them to send an email and check the company in myvisajobs.com and their home page. If they have a development center in Hyd or Bangalore or Chennai, its a red flag although not all recruiters do that.

Thirdly, try asking the implementing partner, department, end client, etc..and they will say either their account manager will tell you about all these details or confidential. Either of the answer, just hang up. I don't know which IT professional would like to submit their resume to a recruiter without knowing whom they are submitting to. If they say confidential, do not just hang up but give them a warning that you will complain to DOL.

They are highly unprofessional. So, look for signs, like drafting of email, account manager, confidential, later stage, sure shot interview, only W2, or if they ask you to update the resume according to the requirement, anything as such is a red flag.

These fake recruiters can barely talk for two minutes in English as it is properly scripted and read out from a notepad. Anything beyond this script or not a generic conversation, they try to keep the call short and try tactics like account manager will get back to you, blah blah, it is a red flag.

These people usually see the requirement in the market and try to submit as many profiles as possible hoping even if they get one placement in a fortnight, its a win win situation and they intention would be mainly on submitting as many resumes as possible and when they talk to you, they try to hurry up the call. It's a red flag. These people work with an intention to submit as many resumes as possible but not closure. If you guys clearly observe these phone calls, It would be evident.

I'll keep posted some more if I can think of any..
