Kavipriya to ask Kuchibhotla's family to help hate crime victims

What will the family of Srinivas Kuchibhotla do with 6,83,781 dollars that has been raised on the gofundme platform? The amount after conversion into Indian currency is Rs 4,57,02,896.

Kavipriya Muthuramalingam, a former co-worker of Srinivas Kochibhotla, had initiated the fund on behalf of Sunayana, wife of Srinivas. Kavipriya who lives in Los Angeles, US, will make a suggestion on how the Rs 4.57 cr can be used. This suggestion is being made based on the suggestions that have come from donors.

Donations are no longer being accepted as in a matter of five days, as against the goal of 1,50,000 dollars, a total of 6,83,781 was collected.

"Some of you shared ideas on starting a charitable foundation to help victims, provide scholarships and celebrate Srinu's life. I will be encouraging Sunayana to do the same as well," Kavipriya Mahalingam said on the platform announcing that the campaign was closed.

When the campaign was initiated, it was mentioned that the amount was being collected for Sunayana and family 'who are now faced with incredible grief and a multitude of expenses.'

"We've set up this fund to help them with the funeral expenses and other ongoing grief / recovery support costs. This includes the very expensive process of carrying his mortal remains back to India, so his parents can say goodbye one last time to their beloved son," Kavipriya had mentioned.

Since the family is in grief, Kavipriya feels they should be given enough time for themselves and then talk about the fund with them.

 

 

 

At Austin's bar and Grille, Olathe, Kansas, Srinivas was killed by an alleged gunman Adam Purinton in what is being probed as a hate crime. Srinivas' friend Alok was also injured. An American Ian Grillot was also injured when he rushed to help the two Indians.

A gofundme campaign started by Ian Grifflot's sisters has also got good response. As against the goal of 3,00,000 dollars, it has so far got 4,55,577 dollars in five days. The fund was initiated by Ian's sister Maggie Grillot who lives in Olathe. Ian is still in the hospital recovering from a bullet wound he suffered in the attack.

 

 

 

Another campaign to fund Alok Madasani's medical expenses which was started by his brother-in-law Rohan Reddy has also ended after raising 41,179 dollars. Alok who suffered bullet wounds is out of the hospital.
