Doesn't matter if you are a thopu driver in india... trust me... its different here. I was thinking same... but many of us learned with bad basics... i went to 2-day training course... helps a lot...

Initial ga 250cc ki vellu... nee height & weight ni batti try chesi comfort ga vunnadaaniki vellu...

I recommend you to go for couple training classes. It helped understand many things. Don't compare Indian motorcycle tricks with US roads. You need more experience before you go for heavy cc vehicles. Beginners can start with 500cc as we know basics to handle.

india lo thopu ante dont go for 300 cc. Oka 1 week ayyaka bore kottesthundhi.

First get license. License ki in-class theory plus on road sessions untayi. On road license school valle bikes istaru. Mostlu 250 cc honda rebel and similar bikes. So after getting license, rent a 250 CC for 1 week. Interstate riding ki time teesko, it's totally different.

You also need riding gear, jacket, boots helmet etc.

Crotch rockets vs cruisers, nee styling comfortability batti choose chesko. Personally I prefer cruisers.

Brand name kavalante go for Harley. Reliability, comfortable, cheap kavalante Honda, Yamaha. For example brand name Harley 883 vs reliable Yamaha bolt. I had ninjas, Harley 48. Now looking at yamaha stryker. My personal preference is yamaha or Honda.

ni confidence batti...i started with 1100cc here, with no issues (3 years ayindhi nenu thisukuni). Nuvvu india lo super confident, pichekistha bike ante, go for atleast 600. Less than 600 US roads meedha chala chiraku untadhi.

I can only talk about Ducati...comfort and stylish ante Monster series dhorikesthayi in your budget.
