Indian Idol 9 winner LV Revanth wins Rs 25 lakh, a car, a Bollywood career: ‘My life has just begun’

Baahubali singer LV Revanth wins Indian Idol season 9. He says that he is ready to enter Bollywood and will work on his Hindi now.

An established name in Telugu and Kannada films, Hyderabad-based singer LV Revanth has bagged the title of singing reality series, Indian Idol 9 after leaving behind Khuda Baksh (first runner-up) and PVNS Rohit (second runner-up) in the competition. His singing credits include albums like Baahubali: The Beginning and Vatapatra Sai. “Right now I am on cloud nine. I am very happy for winning the show. I would say that my life has just begun right now. It’s not easy to win that title being a south Indian singer. I saw this show as a big opportunity. The four-month journey in this show has completely changed my life,” Revanth told IANS.

Revanth was handed over the trophy by former India’s cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar. Besides the title, Revanth won prize money of Rs 25 lakh, Mahindra KUV100 and a music contract with Sony Music. Confirming that Bollywood is his target, Revanth told indianexpress.com, “I have big dreams and I have to make it big in Bollywood. I have one eye set on Bollywood and the other on Tollywood, but I want to work on my Hindi first.” He also said that his Hindi was mocked at in the show, “When I started my journey in Indian Idol, a lot of people laughed at me for not knowing Hindi very well. I did feel bad about it, initially, but I did not let anything negative affect me and kept my willpower strong.”

While the winner was always among the favourites on the show, given his experience in playback singing and versatility, his struggle with the Hindi language was at times considered a drawback. Nevertheless, his power-packed performances had an upper hand and finally led him to win despite stiff competition from Khuda Baksh and PVNS Rohit, both of them who got consistently praised by

Revanth’s first film song happened in 2008, Jalak Diklaja for Telugu movie Maha Yagnam. He has sung around 200 songs for Telugu and Kannada films, and has won several awards for his tracks in films like Baahubali: The Beginning, Badrinath and Rajanna. Revanth is the second Telugu singer to win Indian Idol, after Sreeram Chandra, who won the fifth season.

Ace choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan, renowned singer Sonu Nigam and music composer Annu Malik, who kick-started the Indian Idol journey as judges in the first two editions, returned on the panel for the ninth season of the Sony Entertainment Television show, which was hosted by Karan Wahi and Paritosh Tripathi.

Along with its winning moment, there were many other sequences on the grand finale of Indian Idol 9, which had the audience entertained. Actor-comedian Sunil Grover, who hasn’t yet returned to The Kapil Sharma Show, wore his Doctor Mashoor Gulati’s coat for Indian Idol’s finale and had everyone in splits. He was joined on stage by his The Kapil Sharma Show co-star Sugandha Mishra, who is also not seen on the show nowadays. The finale also saw the judges of Sabse Bada Kalakaar, Sony’s new reality show, Raveena Tandon, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. The trio interacted with the finalists and Raveena was also seen shaking a leg with them.

Hyderabad-based LV Revanth, a popular name in the southern entertainment industry, overcame the language barrier to emerge as the winner of popular singing reality show Indian Idol 9 on Sunday in a musical finale filled with various melodious as well as humourous motifs.

Revanth, who has lent his voice for around 200 songs in southern films including Baahubali: The Beginning, became known for his soulful voice right from the start when he auditioned for the show. Despite not knowing Hindi, he sang Bollywood songs effortlessly throughout the season and defeated Hyderabad-based PVNS Rohit and Punjab's Khuda Baksh in the finale to clinch the Indian Idol trophy along with a contract with Universal Music and Rs 25 lakh.

Out of hundreds of aspiring singers auditioned across the country, 14 of them were finalised as the contestants. All of them went tooth and nail with their microphones but Revanth got the last laugh. Other notable contestants included Tajinder Singh, Manya Narang, Mohit Chopra, Maalavika Sundar, RP Shravan and Hardeep Singh among others.

Being a known singer in the Telugu and Kannada film industries, Revanth was the judges' and audience's favourite. As he said on the premiere episode itself, he joined Indian Idol to get recognition nationwide and debut in the Hindi film industry.

Besides the outstanding and foot-tapping performances by the three finalists and the judges, the big highlight of the show was when legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar appeared for the world television premiere of his debut track 'Cricket waali beat', on which he has collaborated with Sonu Nigam. Tendulkar went on to present the winner's trophy to Revanth later in the show.

Another interesting element on the show was when comedian Sunil Grover appeared in the avatars of Dr Mashoor Gulati and Rinku Bhabhi and took viewers on a laughter ride. He has been in the news for a while now after having a fight with ace comedian Kapil Sharma in a flight while returning from an event for The Kapil Sharma Show. Sunil was joined by comedienne Sugandha Mishra.

Earlier, Indian Idol has worked as a platform for singers Abhijeet Sawant, Prashant Tamang, Sreeram Chandra and late Sandeep Acharya, who won the show in previous seasons and went on the make a name for themselves in the Indian music industry
