This news is bizarre, to say the least. I smell some sort of evidence tampering (journalistic, not by police) in this.

sure, black man is probably the perpetrator, but the WHITE AMERICANS angle is so out of the ball park. Its so hard to believe that someone can be that stupid.

Also earlier reports of this attack, didn't completely talk about the letter, except mention it in passing. That time the race of the perpetrator was not known.
