Natyapradarshana sangeeta kacheri ayite evaru emantaru... it started like that but over the time people exploited it in a very bad way. I am not giving examples here because of chances to cause controversy.

There were several reformers campaigned against it in those days ( early 20th century) to remove this.  Only If you have had chance to read the magazines ( Andhra patrika and Prabuddhandhra) of that time period.
