Hindi mandatory

No one seems to have a problem with it except for Tamil Nadu who have a very strong anti-hindi culture in its society, so naturally they won't like it...and there is another state where people can't learn any other language which is AP.

other than these two states, no one seems to have a problem with it and most other states speak and understand hindi.

The difference is between it being voluntary, and mandatory.

Its not enough that they take southern tax money, now they want to impose their language too?

No one seems to have a problem because no one is thinking things through. And underestimating how fast things can move to sh1t.

actually no one is opposing it. Not even TN.

Ideally, they should be picketing Central govt. offices, blackening their buildings, harrassing their employees, if they are truly opposing.

Everyone thinks that market will magically do the right thing. Its the pathetic state of India.

If they don't speak Hindi, it means they don't need it. How's that a bad thing?

The way hindi is projected in southern states especially TN and Present AP, people will still feel it as mandatory even though it is voluntary.

learning an additional language does no harm, atleast now when people are moving all over the country, its good to have knowledge of hindi..

It will only help..It will not effect any culture but in fact promote.

the additional language they want to learn will be Tamil/Kannada. What if they don't want to learn Hindi?

how is it voluntary if that option is denied to them?

Society is moving so fast...people are also moving all across..its tough to create a common secular language and make 1.3 billion people to learn the language...best approach is to have an idea on hindi..

I don't see any negative shades in that..

There's no need for a common language. India will always be a hodgepodge of different cultures that blend together to form a nation.

if you give up your linguistic freedom, you give up your ability to bargain the best for your state. The central govt always have to be kept on an edge, and not be allowed to relax. State govts can take up majority of responsibility for their citizens. And down south the govts mostly do a good job. Why should we let this advantage go?

there's seriously no upside in southern states or any other state adopting hindi.

There's no need for TN or any state to prove that it belongs to India by learning Hindi.

It is India which must prove that it considers aspirations of people from all states equally. The central govt should be held to that standard. If its not possible to hold India together without imposition of Hindi, then India break.

In fact, its Karnataka which is the loudest opponent of Hindi in recent times. Tamilians have calmed down a lot. I hope Kannadigas keep at it.
