It was a mile-high flub.

A man with some extra baggage sent in a tip to authorities about a fake plot to hijack an airplane because he couldn’t afford to buy his online girlfriend a ticket for the flight.

Police in the Indian city of Hyderabad arrested 32-year-old Motaparthi Vamshi Krishna for pretending to be a woman who overheard six men plotting to hijack planes in the cities of Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai, according to a statement by local authorities.

The married man and father sent the email a day ahead of a trip he scheduled with a woman he’d met online. She wanted to move forward in their relationship and proposed meeting up in Mumbai and Goa — but he couldn’t afford the tickets.

Instead of telling his paramour about his financial struggles, Krishna — who works as a travel agent — opted to fabricate a ticket for his online love.

Airports in the area responded to the fake threat with extra security.

After shipping her the fake passes, he sat in a cafe and sent authorities the hijack hoax email.

Police alerted airline securities to the threat and then traced the IP address to an internet cafe called E Netzone. After examining CCTV footage, investigators were able to identify Krishna as the person behind the bogus tip. He immediately confessed to the scheme, according to the release.

“He didn’t have the money, but if he canceled because of that, it would have hurt his pride, and his friendship with this girl could have come to an end,” Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Limba Reddy said during a press conference. “So his thinking was that if the flight was to be canceled and it was because of the airport, he wouldn’t be at fault.”

He was arrested on four charges including impersonation and providing false information. If found guilty, he could face five years in prison and a $150 fine.
