REQUISITION OVERVIEW:

DHHS is seeking a Senior CA Gen Technical Consultant to provide expert technical support to enhance, maintain and operate the N-FOCUS development environment from Computer Associates (CA) Gen (v8.5), including dependent and related software in a large-scale, complex client (Windows) / server (IBM zOS mainframe) technical environment. 

 

ENVIRONMENT:

                  N-FOCUS web applications consist of public applications, including dashboard applications, and applications launched directly from N-FOCUS.  Eclipse is the IDE used to generate the Java Server Faces and Facelets code.  These Java applications run on Tomcat application servers on the Linux Operating System.  The Java applications call stored procedures to access DB2 data and SQL to access SQL server data.

 

The primary role of the N-FOCUS team today is to maintain and enhance the N FOCUS application.  This includes providing users with technical and business support to keep the system current with government policy and industry technology, both of which continue to change at a rapid pace. Business and technical contract and full-time State team members are organized into teams that are involved in application development (Gen, AION, COBOL, Web, Reporting), technical architecture (workstation communications, mainframe communications, print architecture, reporting architecture administration, document imaging administration), database administration, configuration management, project management, business requirements and testing, application and production support, and training.  Approximately 30 technical and 30 business team members are assigned to the N-FOCUS team.

 

The N-FOCUS team implements changes to N-FOCUS through a structured development lifecycle which involves monthly batch platform releases and three major online platform releases per year (March, July, November).  In addition, the team implements off-release changes as needed to meet business requirements, such as specific compliance mandates or emergency maintenance. 

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: 

DHHS prefers a candidate that possesses the skills and experience that span both the CA Gen client/server development and encyclopedia tools and the zOS CA Gen Implementation Toolset (IT). 

 

The candidate will:

·         work as part of a small team that provides development environment support, configuration management, Gen encyclopedia management, release management and application architecture support

·         provide depth to the small team across a range of N-FOCUS applications architecture and development environment support tasks

·         assist team leadership by leading appropriate enhancement projects and

·         Assist team leadership with consulting on incremental modernization options for the CA Gen portfolio.

 

·         Required:

o    Significant experience with large-scale, complex CA Gen application environments.

o    Experience upgrading CA Gen technical environments from one release to the next.

o    Experience with modernizing CA Gen applications, particularly towards an enterprise Java environment. 

·         Preferred:

o    Experience with the CA Gen Workstation/Toolset and Workstation/Build Tools.

o    Experience with configuration and encyclopedia management in support of a multi-developer, multi-model, complex CA Gen Client/Server Encyclopedia (CSE) environment.

o    Experience with CA Gen Workstation Cross Generation Option for OS/390.

o    Experience with the CA Gen CICS ECI middleware and IBM CICS Transaction Gateway.

o    Experience with CA Gen Implementation Toolset (IT) for zOS and upgrading the IT from one version to the next.

o    Experience with typically dependent software tools for similar client/server environments, such as Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/C version 9 and upgrading to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010/12.

o    Experience with the Rexx scripting language (automated build scripts). 

o    Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience in gathering requirements from a diverse audience, both business and technical. 

o    Strong organization, planning, problem solving, and decision making skills.Comfortable prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and projects.

o    Experience with solutions involving enterprise Microsoft Windows Server environments and Microsoft SQL Server.

o    Experience with state Health & Human Services systems requirements and portfolios, particularly integrated eligibility solutions. 

o    Experience with NE DHHS N-FOCUS applications environment a plus.
