When Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was in Dallas at a convention centre speaking to the Telugu community gathered there, the Mayor of Irving, Texas, Beth Van Duyne received a flurry of emails asking her to arrest him. As a result, security officials were dispatched to the location.

The emails, which claim to be from ‘Indians Fighting for Human Rights’ call for his arrest based on Naidu’s alleged orders for killing red sanders smugglers in the state and for allegedly collecting huge sums in the name of donation from Telugu NRIs without their consent. Reports claim that the email came from the social media wing of the Jagan-led YSRC Congress.

In fact, the meeting in USA did have a sizeable number of NRIs and American investors who were interested in funding projects in Amaravati. The chief minister has advanced the deadline for construction of the Andhra Pradesh's new capital city by a year, and promised to build Amaravati by Vijaya Dasami (Dussehra) in 2017. The state government initially set 2018 as the deadline for completing the phase-1 of the capital city development but later announced that the target now stands altered.

When the officials reached the location and investigated the meeting they did not find anything  wrong or any illegal donations being conducted and then treating it as security issue they provided cover for the minister until he was there, said a report in the Deccan Herald.

In 2015 Telugu Association of North America (TANA) had said that the organisation would accept donations from its community members in the US and Canada and present the collected donations to the Andhra Pradesh government.

Coming to the ‘killing’ part, it dates back to an incident in 2015 when Andhra Pradesh police personnel conducted an operation in the Seshachalam forests  and killed 20 people in the encounter.  12 among those killed were Tamils and the TN government had even questioned the AP side for this operation.  The 20 , who were gunned down, were alleged to be red sanders smugglers.

It was a raging controversy back then. The incident sparked protests in Tamil Nadu from where bus services to Andhra Pradesh were disrupted due to stone-pelting incidents. It was considered a gross violation of human rights.
