no its wrong misconception among mindringers 

if employer matches or not, thumb rule is to invest in 401k which will save you alot on taxes.

monthly atleast oka $300 to $500 401K lo save chesko man... kharchulu lekuntey ekkuva save cheyyu.. ekkuvunte takkuva save cheyyu.. but small savings will help after 10 to15 years or long time..

401K account lo money veskunte you can take loan using that money to buy your first home, I guess with no apr anukunta.
