Not really, a coach is needed to analyze and observe things about someone's game that they themselves might not be able to at all times. That might also include mental training and being able to focus on the game at a key moment etc. So a coach is very essential, just because he's someone you don't see on the field doesn't mean he's someone that's not significant to the success of the team.

Batting coach is Bangar ,Kumble is head coach off course main job is do better man management and drawing out strategies and look to iron out wrong doing in players. Now a days almost all teams have specific coach for each department be it Batting , Bowling, fielding.
