Eight miles from Manhattan, a 30,000-square-foot estate is quietly hidden on six acres in the exclusive neighborhood of Alpine, New Jersey. Home to celebrities, doctors, professional athletes and more, the private Alpine community’s former residents include the likes of Chris Rock, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Stevie Wonder, and Britney Spears.

The 12-bedroom and 19-bathroom Stone Mansion is currently owned by Richard Kurtz, chief executive of Kamson Corporation. The home is listed exclusively with Sharon Kurtz of Sotheby’s Prominent Properties in a marketing partnership with Compass in New York City. Celebrity home staging expert Meridith Baer was brought in to style the mansion before putting the property up for sale. With a client list including Julia Roberts and Christina Aguilera, the home features Baer’s custom upholstery line and purchases from vendors around the world for several rooms, including the living room and master bedroom suite.

Newly constructed and never lived in, the $48.8 million Georgian-style mansion is what Kimberlee Knecht, real estate agent at Compass calls, “the American Dream.” Timeless, elegant and historical, the home embodies a mix of traditional and modern luxury qualities. Featuring a heated driveway, carpeted 10-car garage, 4,000-bottle wine cellar accessed through fingerprint scanning, an elevator and an indoor basketball court with 19-foot ceilings, Stone Mansion’s outrageous amenities go above and beyond the ordinary.

Entering the estate, “the foyer is the centerpiece of the home,” says Knecht. From the marble floors imported from India to the hand-forged wrought-iron railing on the staircase, no detail is overlooked. Venetian plastered walls, French antique wall sconces, and a grand crystal chandelier instantly greets guests with a warm and welcoming atmosphere upon entering the home.

Stepping through the foyer, two powder rooms can be found lined with onyx and gold on the floors and counters. The walls of the powder rooms give off a subtle shimmer with tiny flecks of silver mica powder in the plaster.

A home built to entertain, the living and dining rooms are central to the mansion with views of the backyard and pool, along with access to the martini bar and ballroom. Trimmed in 24-carat gold, “the ballroom is one of the main distinguishing features that sets this home apart,” says Knecht.

The kitchen is large enough to be a restaurant, with a $75,000 La Cornue range, stunning marble island, massive pantry, seating area, and breakfast room. Designed by renowned interior designer Christopher Peacock, the kitchen was built to be the heart of the home.

With a master suite as big as a two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan, the master bedroom features a sitting room and his-and-hers dressing rooms, while the master bathroom balances a light ethereal feel with a masculine, rich mahogany vibe in the his-and-hers bathrooms.
