ధ్యాన్చంద్కు భారతరత్న

న్యూఢిల్లీ: భారత హాకీ దిగ్గజం ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌కు భారత అత్యున్నత పురస్కారం భారతరత్న ఇవ్వాలని కోరుతూ కేంద్ర క్రీడామంత్రిత్వ శాఖ ప్రధాన మంత్రి కార్యాలయానికి లేఖ రాసింది. ఈ విషయాన్ని మీడియాతో ఆ శాఖ మంత్రి విజయ్‌ గోయల్‌ ధృవికరించారు. హాకీలో దేశానికి ఎన్నో విజయాలందించిన ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌కు భారత రత్న ప్రకటించి నిజమైన నివాళిలు అర్పిస్తామని గోయల్‌ తెలిపారు. ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ హాకీలో భారత్‌కు 1928,1932,1936 లో స్వర్ణపతకాలందించిన విషయం తెలిసిందే.

 

క్రీడాకారులకు భారత అత్యున్నత పురస్కారం ఇవ్వడం సచిన్‌ టెండూల్కర్‌తో అప్పటి యూపీఏ ప్రభుత్వం ప్రారంభించింది. అప్పటి క్రీడా శాఖ సచిన్‌తో పాటు  ధ్యాన్‌చంద్‌ పేరును ప్రభుత్వానికి నివేదించింది. కానీ ప్రభుత్వం సచిన్‌ను మాత్రమే ఈ అత్యున్నత పురస్కారానికి ఎంపిక చేసింది. దీంతో ఈ పురస్కారం అందుకున్న తొలి క్రీడాకారుడిగా సచిన్‌ నిలిచాడు. ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ సాధించిన విజయాలను వేటితో పోల్చలేమని, ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ మరణించినపుడే క్రీడాకారులకు భారత రత్న ప్రకటించే అవకాశం ఉంటే ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ ఈ పురస్కారం అందుకున్న తొలి క్రీడాకారుడయ్యే వాడని గోయల్‌ స్పష్టం చేశారు.

 

ప్రధాన మంత్రి దీనిపై తుది నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంటారన్నారు. ఇక ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ జయంతి ఆగష్టు 29న జాతీయ క్రీడా దినోత్సవంగా జరుపుకుంటున్నాం. ఆరోజే  వివిధ క్రీడల్లో రాణించిన అథ్లేట్లకు రాష్ట్రపతి చేతుల మీదుగా అవార్డులు అందజేస్తారు. ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌ కుమారుడు అశోక్‌ కుమార్‌, మాజీ హాకీ ఆటగాళ్లు ధ్యాన్‌ చంద్‌కు భారత రత్న అవార్డు ప్రకటించాలని గతి కొద్దికాలంగా డిమాండ్‌ చేస్తున్నారు.

Ade athanu chesina biggest mistake emo, citizenship accept chestuntey atleast valla next generations Germany lo bagu padevallu. 

Unfortunately this great man died in penury without a single politician or sportsman even attending his funeral, except some lone journalist who pasted news of his death in a local newspaper. 

Compare that to how Babe Ruth, another contemporary of him in the world of Baseball and a baseball legend is treated in the US. Then you will understand why India will continue to win close to 0 medals at Olympics.

Statistically rated as the greatest sportsman of all time, in any sport. Although it might seem like an unfair comparison since it's impossible to compare different sports to each other, there's a certain parameter of domination that's used to compare these people. 

Babe Ruth in baseball, Don Bradman in Cricket, Pele in Football and Dhyan Chand in Hockey are the greatest legends, that have no one even close to them in comparison even today. While all the rest of those sportsmen have been lauded, respected and recognized by their people, Dhyan Chand died a death in utter poverty. 

He even discouraged his own son from playing Hockey due to his own disappointment in not establishing a steady income for himself. Such is the state of sportsmen in the great nation of India.

Don Bradman's meeting with Dhyan Chand:

 

Bradman came to City Hall to meet the Indian team and had a picture taken with Dhyan Chand, a memento which Dhyan Chand cherished all his life.

In the evening, at the cricket ground, India played a match, which was Bradman's first hockey match. So impressed was Bradman by Dhyan Chand's style of play that he told him, "You score goals like runs in cricket."

Years later, Dhyan Chand would rate his appointment as the 1936 Berlin Olympics captain and his meeting with Don Bradman as the two most exciting moments of his life.
