Anil Kumble will continue as India coach till the end of the India series, India Today has learnt.

The Committee of Administrators met in Delhi today to to discuss the issue and it was decided Kumble, who has had phenomenal success in his one-year stint, will be India coach for the upcoming start of the tour of West Indies which starts immediately after the conclusion of the ongoing Champions Trophy.

India Today had also reported earlier that Kumble will continue till the 2019 World Cup but the entire process could take until June 26. India play their first match against West Indies on June 23. Hence, Kumble was the obvious choice to travel to the Caribbean islands with the team.

There were reports of a rift between skipper Virat Kohli and Kumble with the former complaining of the coach's overbearing attitude in the dressing-room.

The BCCI had last month issued an advertisement for interviews for the position of the next coach. Consequently, the likes of Virender Sehwag, Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody and Dodda Ganesh were shortlisted as the final candidates. Kumble re-applied despite being told he would get a direct entry into the pool.

However, the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who had appointed Kumble in 2016 for a one-year period, firmly backed Kumble to continue. The CAC, in a meeting in London, shortly after the India-Sri Lanka Champions Trophy match, said they would like to have further discussions with Kohli and BCCI.

Infact, the advisory committee was asked to hold another meeting in London on June 13 but that won't happen since Ganguly is busy with commentary duties in Cardiff. where Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced off in a crucial game.

Under Kumble, India have won Test series against West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. India have also responded well in limited-overs cricket in his tenure and are currently in the last-four of the Champions Trophy in England.
