Hyderabad: The Telangana state government created a record on Monday by opening 169 residential schools in a single day for students from SC, ST, BC and minority categories.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated the officials concerned for their efforts in successfully launching the new schools on the very first day of the new academic year on Monday.

Mr Rao said 169 schools were opened out of the planned 255 schools across the state, aimed at imparting free quality education on par with corporate schools for SC/ST/BC and minority students.

He called upon the students who joined these schools to take inspiration from Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar and come up in life.

He said he is happy that as per the promise given in the election manifesto, the KG-to-PG free education for the weaker and backward section children has begun with the starting of residential schools.

He said that before the formation of the state there were only 259 residential schools for SC/ST/BC and minorities. Now within the three years, the Telangana government has increased the number to 527. He said the government will soon increase these schools to 786.

Half of the residential schools are exclusively meant for girls — to encourage them, provide  facilities and protection.

The government will be spending Rs 1.25 lakh per year on each student on an average.

He said that in the government residential schools, education, meals and boarding is given to the students for free.

The CM said that his aim is to enable even the poor student to get quality education and attain higher positions in society.

He said that the government has started residential schools in a big way with English as the medium of instruction so that students who passed out of these institutions could compete with others in the country.

The CM also said that students who passed out of the social welfare residential schools are getting good ranks in the entrance tests like the Eamcet, IIT and getting into prestigious institutions in the country.

1.25 lacs seems rather high. Probably lot of corruption commissions.

Also why cast based instead of income based ? more caste based politics.

Well, the figure seems to be too nigh but, thinking of infrastructural facilities provided, food, books, boarding, financial aid and assistance, scholarships, hiring teachers, extra curricular activities, sports, facilities maintenance...thinking of all these expenses per year and calculating per pupil, cost vundochu nearly 1.25 lakh varaku...i might be wrong..

but, imagine a residential school upto 10th class SSC, with 100 students, 15 teachers, 5 non teaching staff, groundsman, food, expenses, clothes, etc, maintenance of buildings, etc all together might cost the exchequer around 1 crore..15 teachers ki 30,000 salary anukunte, average ga oka 50,00,000 salaries payments ki avutayi..and food expenses, residential expenses, and scholoarships, allowances, etc inkoka 50,00,000 varaku avutundochu...so, ala chusina per pupil cost comes around to 1 lakh per head...and ipudu announce chesina daniki deggaraga vundi kada figure...

well, this report is somewhat incorrect...In India, schools do not have reservation. Yes, there are schools like..BC Samkshema Hostels, SC,ST samskhema...but these schools do not deny admission to general quota people but preference is given as these schools are usually set up from SC/ST/BC development funds...but, generally no child is denied admission based on caste in these schools...

Some schools are set up from state funds, some from SSA funds. And some more especially SC/ST/BC residential schools are set up from backward caste development funds which is mostly unspent. So instead of using state's funds, administration uses this unspent Sc/St funds to set up such residential schools. Caste certificate is compulsory in all the govt schools. But based on caste, admission won't be denied in these schools. SC residential school ante that doesn't mean only SC caste people should study. Admission is not denied in such schools based on castes. This is a novel way to spent the unspent money which is ear marked for oppressed class welfare especially primary education.

I hope the concept is clear...
