How many coaches did Usain Bolt change before he hit gold, and after? It doesn't matter. Players have their internal processes. Its upto the coach to get along with them (apart from his outbursts at them), earn their trust and goodwill, and hoodwink them into doing what he wants to get done. Isn't that what every good manager does? Kumble should stop pretending that he's the victim here.

How many coaches did Murray change? Federer? None of that matters.

lazybugger - you are comparing a teamsport to individual sport. Both sports have different dynamics. Kumble is not a Coach of Kohli. He was the 'Head Coach' of Senior Mens Cricket Team. With Federer and Murray as you quoted - they are talented individuals and both needed Coach support every now and them to improvise their technique. See Nadal's interview notes about his Coach 'Uncle Toni' to understand the importance of Coach in his career.

Yes, Coach needs to earn the trust and goodwill of his squad but doesn't have to influence players to get things done. All are professionals and playing at the highest level and have the same end goal. If both Coach & Captain has the same vision and says its not working out - its shows a difference in philosophy. so go figure! Name me one team sport which doesn't need a Coach

you said the same thing I said. But I also said that coach is not irreplaceable. It depends on the team he's coaching, and the stage they are at.

Kumble should've known the limitations of a coach before he took up the job. He can't expect to waltz in, and demand processes that are different from the ones that the team is already following, unless the team is fcuking up big time. Players won't be ready to listen to that kind of radical change.

Kumble is no stranger to International cricket and am sure we both agree to the fact that he worked with quite a few coaches and experienced the nuances of coaching styles. He didn't just stormed into the dressing room and asked a right hand batsman to bat left handed (or may be he did). I don't know about these 'radical changes' that you are referring to. if you are privy to the dressing room/board meetings, please enlighten us here with the facts. let us wait until we hear Kohli's side of the story, before we starting calling names.

neither of us are privy to what happened in the dressing room. If players are not happy with a coach, he must go. Or if the team is performing really poorly, in which case, some of the players revolting against the coach must go.

Its clear at which stage Team India is at, at the moment. Its advantage team against the coach. perhaps the success that Kumble helped achieve (being generous to him), is what helped them kick him out.

based on writing on cricinfo (before this sh1tstorm broke through), it seems he tried to tamper with the process of how an injured player gets back into the team. it looks like the process resulted in delaying the recovery period, and seems the entire team is carrying niggles for the past one year.

Lets not pretend that Team India is a bunch of amateurs, who are in dire need of a taskmaster. Team India is one of the most professional sporting teams from India. It shows from the way they play on the field. Even with limited bowling options, they have devised ways to win consistently on the world stage, shows they are not an unprofessional unit.

Kohli is not going to talk about this issue until after his retirement. you and I can both speculate.

The rule kumble had was that u need to play and prove in domestic games that u are fully fit after the injury which is always good.....

I can't comment on whether its good or not.

but pretending like Kumble is a victim of superstar culture is bullshit. Not long ago, Kumble was one of those superstars. Did he speak in support of Greg Chappell, when the entire team was against him?

at that time, Indian team's performance was even more crappy. losing in the first round of world cup. Compared to that, the current team is a juggernaut, with insane winning percentage.

Why should anyone take the coach's side now?

Leave the results aside....every coach has his own unique style of coaching...do u want everyone to follow the same formula..then whats the use of hiring different coaches when u have a common template...he has his own style which didnot sync with kohli and so the differences....

that's why get someone who has a different style and gels well with the team, and gets results.

my question is, why does Kumble get to play victim here. he's just a coach. He should go silently.

dude...u are not getting it.....a coach cant modify his own style so that the players can get comforted....his sole aim is to get positive results which kumble already got...if kumble also gives all the favors the players ask ,then he will be another ravi shastri who used to nod everything what kohli says......a coach should be in a position tocommand the players ...not a puppet in their hands...
