Narendra Modi's hatred on Telangana

HYDERABAD: The TRS government which passed the GST bill before any other state in the country, now seems to regret its haste. With over 32 products and services landing higher rate slabs, the Telangana government is now repenting its enthusiasm in extending all-out support to the bill. The state government has conveyed its displeasure over the rates fixed for 34 products and requested the Union finance minister for a review.

Rejecting the Telangana's plea, the finance ministry revised rates only on spectacles and entertainment tax on below Rs 100 cinema tickets and left all others unchanged. This has hurt the TRS government which sees major dent in its income with the introduction of the GST.

What is troubling the state government is higher tax on irrigation projects, road and water supply schemes. At present irrigation contractors pay 4 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT). Whereas under the GST regime, the tax is set to go up to 18 per cent which in most of the cases would be passed on to the government.

"The GST will be collected by the Centre and the state government has to bear the burden for irrigation, roads and water supply projects. The higher rate slab will escalate the project cost as contractors include the same in the total project cost. In the end, the government ends up paying higher tax for all its projects," pointed a senior official in the government. The CM already hinted at writing to the PM on this, requesting him to withdraw these services from the GST net. Telangana wanted a review of GST on beedis, drainage pipes, granite, and other products. But the Union finance ministry said that there would be no further review and state governments should be ready to implement the new tax system from July 1.

"The issues raised by Telangana government were not addressed in the GST council meeting. We are not happy on higher tax slabs for some of the products and services which will adversely affect our economy . We will raise the issue in the final meeting scheduled on June 18," said finance minister Etela Rajender.

Bhayya neeku okati teluso ledo , all the south states contribute way more than the northern states and in turn receive less central grants etc , not trying to bring in north south divide here but this is how our country has been working

GST is another rod in the same pipeline , but people may have to swallow it for the greater good of the country
