401k is undisputed king in savings.

If you don’t work for an employer that offers a 401(k) plan, your retirement options are limited. The IRA is going to be your best friend, as long as you don’t earn more than IRA income caps.

if you are single, your income (AGI) should be less than 118k$ for 2017 to qualify for IRA.

yeah its possible...

max limit in 401k - 18k + 9k (average company match..some companies match more than this) . so total $27k savings in year.

he might be working for past 19 years anukunte - 27k*19 =  $513k in his 401k

Yes , still possible.  $18k + $6K (matching) , if he started working from 24 and he is 42 .  = 18 yrs exp..

$24k * 18 == $432 .. + returns on avg ..compound ... should be greater than $500k .
